In the beginning...

Locks Heath tennis courts were completed by Fareham Borough Council in 1978 after consultation with local residents who turned down a skate-board park in favour of the courts.  FBC then invited local residents to set up a Club to run them.  A meeting was convened in the Memorial Hall by Arthur Noote, a keen tennis player, and it was absolutely packed.  When it closed a committee had been formed, with Arthur as our first Chairman. Liz Hawthorne, who is still a member, was elected Membership Secretary on that first committee and Gina White was treasurer and who is also still a playing member.  Her husband Terry became the second Chairman of the club, taking over from Arthur in 1982.  Sadly has, Arthur died, but he had continued to play tennis at the club well into his 80’s. Our current oldest playing member is also their 80’s, but we also have a large junior membership. One of our early junior members, Tony Dutton, is currently coaching at Hurlingham and his Mum Janet is still a member.  Our own coach,  Roy Henderson, plays for Great Britain, and still plays senior tennis at national level.  He has been very successful over the years and is an experienced coach.  The club currently has the most members of any club in the Fareham district, but we still have room for more.
